In case you haven't heard/read about it, a potentially serious vulnerability in the DNS protocol was discovered and released earlier this month. While there have not yet been any extreme horror stories of mass chaos that everyone was expecting (this vuln rings somewhat reminiscent of Y2K)... it may be worth your while to check with your ISP to make

In the absence of special characters, I would suggest making the password as long as you're comfortable will or as the application will allow. If for whatever reason they prefer that you keep it to alphanumeric characters, you can still add to the security by making the password itself longer. I agree that the admins being able to review passwords

If cost is your main concern, you might instead look into one of the various flavors of the VNC program, or the web service LogMeIn. Both come with free and paid-for versions that offer basic remote control as well as some extra goodies for more in-depth administrative tasks.

You will need to have a fairly specific listing of your data requirements (i.e. which information you want to store/provide), as well as knowing a bit about whoever is hosting your website -- in particular, what type of scripting will they support (PHP and ASP are common) and whether they offer any kind of database services (MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server

ERD Commander -- a paid-for product -- can also do a password reset. I wouldn't suggest buying it just for that, but if you know someone who has it, you can perhaps ask them to borrow it (it is a very quick process).

Hi Edenshores. You can copy/paste the results inline, but (as you have probably noticed) it can be quite a lengthy file. What I tend to recommend for larger copy/paste jobs is the use of a "paste bin" site, such as this one: http://pastebin.ca/ That will let you post whatever information you think is relevant, while at the same time not forcing everyone
There is a free utility that works well on XP, and supposedly on Vista. http://home.eunet.no/pnordahl/ntpasswd/
+1... that app has saved me several times. In particular, I had a similar issue with my home computer (admin password was blank, but some security policy forbid signing on with any account that had a blank password). Give it

I have used Veritas BackupExec (now Symantec) for a number of years, and it works quite well. I also recommend enabling Shadow Copy for files, as it is much quicker than trying to track down backup tapes and such.

Can you give more details about what you're doing and what specifically the problem is? (Error messages, that kind of thing.)

It's DNS tunneling: http://dnstunnel.de/ (That was the site I first read about it on, some years ago. There are more out there now.) This takes advantage of a quirk of many "secured" networks to allow DNS queries out, even if they prohibit or restrict web traffic. Another way is using ICMP ("ping") tunneling: http://www.cs.uit.no/~daniels/PingTunnel
