I would think that you would want to use server 2k. advanced server is probably beyond the scope of what you really want to do. however instead of exchange for your email there is a product for about the same price as an exchange mail server called x.Port it will act as a web based intranet that will operate on your internal network as a web front end

JoAnn, have you ever thought about using a server-centric model? Though a vpn is good under certain circumstances it will expose your entire network to your users. there is a web portal called x.Port CPS which will intergrate all of your email without using exchange and will provide you with file folders for documents and other files, a document library

There is this great tool called x.Port CPS which allows houndreds of users to colaborate on everything from calandering, tasks, project management, email and even build out seperate web pages specific to different corporate or org divisions. it is great as it is hosted for you and can be joined with your current website via a username/password login
