  • wireless vs. wired network for small nonprofit

Out nonprofit is getting ready to consolidate operations onto a single floor of our building. Currently we have a Cat-5 wired network spanning two floors with a server running SBS 2000 and Exchange 2000 (woefully short on hard drive space but that's another issue). When we move the server, along with the patch panel, dsl router and network switches

  • RE: server-side spam filter for Exchange 2000

How is server-side spam blocking a bad idea in the long run? It seemed like a better option than trying to maintain a spam-blocking program on 12 individual desktops. Thanks for the referal, but rather than use yet another service, it would probably make more sense to move our e-mail hosting back to our ISP and see if they have spam-blocking in place
  • server-side spam filter for Exchange 2000

I'm looking for an inexpensive server-side spam filter which works with MS Exchange 2000. We've been using a free desktop-based program, but it's been persnickety lately on several computers and on one I've actually had to remove it. Even though our office only has 12 workstations, it's taking too much time to maintain and troubleshoot
  • RE: network nightmares

Finally, after many frustrating weeks of trying, and even starting to send out bids for a new server, I found the problem. One of our network hubs was failing, and since only half the cables going into the back were labeled (and badly at that), it was tough to tell which workstations were hooked to which hub. I finally tracked down the malfunctioning

  • RE: updating SCSI drivers on a Novell 3.2 server

I just wanted to stop back and say thanks for the advice. Sorry for the delay, but I'd been waylaid with a major network problem (with which the guys on the Novell forum were very helpful). I was able to get the SCSI drivers installed on our server and they're working great! Thanks again!

  • RE: network nightmares

I don't think we're using NetShield - it's part of the NAI corporate virus scanning, not NetWare (if I understand right), but I'll have to double-check. I tried disabling McAfee on one machine; it sped up a little. I took it off completely on another, and again, a small improvement, but not a complete one. So I tried several things at

  • RE: network nightmares

Do you know anything more about which version of VirusScan and the engine won't work? We're running VirusScan 4.0.3, with the 4.1.40 scan engine. I'm not sure if I ran the DAT or SuperDat this last time - I know I downloaded both at some point. I checked McAfee's and Novell's websites, but couldn't find anthing specific. I have

  • updating SCSI drivers on a Novell 3.2 server

Does anyone know how to update SCSI drivers on a Novell 3.2 network? The file in question is aha1540.dsk I've downloaded the new one from Adaptec, but the readme doesn't tell where to copy the new files, just how to modify the startup.ncf. I did a search for the files of the same name on the server, and none come up. I tried their technical

  • network nightmares

We run a 10-workstation Novell 3.2 network. Suddenly, some of the workstations are reponding very slowly when pulling data from the server. Others are working just fine. I haven't made any changes lately, other than update our DAT files for Viruscan, which I did to all of the machinces the same day. Everything ran fine the day after I did the updates

  • RE: server vs. regular PC

Thanks. Tell me more about hot sinks - they're not something I'm familiar with.
