We have been reviewing products recently and one area I would highlight is the differences in pricing when you get into the details. Make sure you are clear on the number of callers, where they are coming from, if you wish to record (and where do you store the recordings), etc. Not every option is included......Caveat emptor as they say. I like this model but it seems it is not well established. What I found from the research I did is that outsourcing is the norm. My feeling is that a shared services model could significantly reduce cost but the logistics and management would not be trivial......we use outsourcing and the cost / benefit is acceptable. We have 55 workstations and 6 servers

Fair comments although in this case I have a good feel for their cost structure. You must be very efficient to keep things going 1 day / week.

I've had some discussions with other (local) NFP organizations about the possibility of utilizing a 'shared services' model for IT service as a way of lowering cost and increasing service. The idea would be to create a small group that each organization would then help to fund and this group would provide core help-desk, network, monitoring

If you have a rack I would go with a rack mount option. You can get a very powerful server in 1U or 2U now. We have rack mounted servers, UPS, managed power supply, KVM switch, tape backup and all our network gear in a rack. You can also get a keyboard and screen in a 1U footprint if space is an issue. Helps keep things neat and tidy. Dan.
