  • Re: Symantec Endpoint 11

I'm looking into purchasing Endpoint myself right now. In some very limited online research, consensus among users seems to be "run for your life". It is so hard to tell how accurate comments and feedback are about stuff like this, but this is pretty overwhelmingly negative. From CNET to Amazon to New Egg... even some threads on here.
  • Re: help! google apps, luddites, and other stuff

Changing your MX records and routing your emails through google is pretty straight forward and won't be that much work. Google has some good step by step instructions to assist. http://www.google.com/support/a/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=33352 Is that what you meant?

Hi there, I recently went through a similar decision process. We played with the idea of moving a 50 employee organization to Google Apps instead of paying to outsource an Exchange Server. Eventually the Exchange Server won out, despite the 500+ a month pricetag. For us, I broke it down to the following categories: Email and collaboration platform,

  • Re: Web Design Firms - how to choose? (and who are the big dogs?)

Thanks for that tip! I've been checking footers and viewing source code to see if I could find some hints. But haven't had much luck with any of the really nice, big, sites. http://www.marchofdimes.com/ http://www.nature.org/ http://www.worldwildlife.org/ http://www.redcross.org/ http://www.liveunited.org/ Etc. Etc. A small, local designer could

Thanks, you were right. With some more searching I was able to track down a couple of more threads that address this topic. At least Part 1. And it does sound like we are doing everything that conventional wisdom would dictate we do. We have an RFP, I've poured over portfolios, called references, and have gotten to know people within the potential

  • Re: Secure File Transfer - SFTP or VPN?

That was also my thought with this. Most of the people we deal with will know how to use a basic FTP client and/or their IT departments will be likely to support it. So the time it takes me to implement a secure FTP server could offset the time it will inevitably take me to explain and support the use of a stand alone encryption utility that they are

  • Web Design Firms - how to choose? (and who are the big dogs?)

Though this might be a good topic of discussion. I imagine it has been covered before, but I couldn't find it via a quick search - if I overlooked something obvious please feel free to just point me to that. Part 1: My organization is in the process of accepting proposals for a redesign of our website. It is a pretty significant project, and I will

Thanks for the info and suggestions Chris. Do you have any thoughts about FTPS instead of SFTP? Reason I ask is that I see that Filezilla's server only supports FTPS (SSL), and not SFTP (SSH). I have been reading about the differences online tonight, but would like an experienced opinion.

Thank you for that reply. Very very helpful. I will look into Truecrypt tonight. The amount of data is probably in the 5 to 10 GB range. And the reason for the security/confidentiality is that it contains personally identifiable information. These are non-profit organizations and low level governmental agencies who do not usually have to deal with this

  • Secure File Transfer - SFTP or VPN?

Hi all, An external source has confidential data that they need to get to us. They have requested a secure VPN connection to do so. I am wondering if this is the best way to do it or if you have any other suggestions? Some additional info: Our network is win2003 based, we do have VPN capable routers but they are Sonicwalls and require a specific VPN
