Actually, my supervisor went over the audit with my backup while I was away on vacation. He also blew the first two out of the water which were questionable to begin. You see, I taught him about PFsense, based on freebsd, which can be far better than a cisco router when being used as a router to provide net access to a network, even has redundancy in

The thing is, they were bashing on Xen, and also the router, PFSENSE(based on FreeBSD). Xen also has a commercial package available but it is not cheap. Xen is better than VMWare when you're running OSes which support Xen paravirt. I don't think Xen is comparable though when using VT on the intel processor, but its starting to get there. Oh

very well, I'll ask my supervisor if I can post the section in question. I'm just really disappointed in this company who supposedly performs audits for many non-profits in Anchorage, really disappointed. If I'm allowed to post the section, you'll be extremely shocked at the content. I was so shocked, 10 seconds later I about had a stroke

you know what, after remembering this company offers linux classes, I think this is a person who doesn't represent the company as a whole. I'm going to work with my manager to write a complaint will be forwarded on to the manager of whoever wrote this report.

I don't think the person who done the audit wrote the report, however we did discuss most of the topics in the report. Except the FUD which was a "HIGH LEVEL SUGGESTION" which is clearly incorrect. In fact the crap is the first topic of discussion. I think, from reading, its going from worst to least. Probably why it pisses me off, these people

I had an IT Audit, and one of the major things on the report I was shocked about was "The current IT Administrator is a proponent for open source software.. more stuff here.. While this may seem like an enticing reason to use open source software, the negative aspecpect to open source software is the fact that it is not supported on a corporate network

hmm, I use VMware server as a backup. Products which use complete virtualization tend to be hard on servers. If you use Linux, I recommend OpenVZ, as there will be less of the CPU used when you do have large loads. VMWare is nice, but if you put a large load on it of any kind, you risk burning out the hard drives like I've done several times due

Well. If you get symantec av, consider it unprotected. Let me make the most common geek joke.. Macs don't get viruses! Okay, Now.. I use Linux at home, work, and are converting people to Linux. I'm not concerned with viruses on Ubuntu Linux desktops. Cost of unprotected computer? $0. If you use Kaspersky, you're given "workstation licenses

If you have an old computer around, PFSense is supported and doesn't cost you a dime. You can tell it to connect to a windows server for authentication, or specify usernames via easy web gui. Yes, PFSense is popular and scalable, the City of Homer has several PFSense boxes, also other places where I work use PFSense. http://www.pfsense.com/
