  • RE: Bad experience with a graphic or Web designer?

My experiences have actually been quite good. I think you need to try and communicate clearly. Don't expect the designer to read your mind or know your orgs preferences. Work out a realistic timeline and don't bog down in minutia during the process. We have eliminated a good deal of potential delay by not having a group deal with the designer

  • Advocacy email list building

Hi, I would like to get some input on advocacy (not fundraising) email list building. Specifically, the issue of a non-focused list compared to a focused list. A focused list being one that recruits for a very specific and clearly stated campaign that an organization is running. A non-focused list being one that may recruit for specific campaigns but

  • RE: Which Blog Software to Use?

Hi, We are managing five blogs using Wordpress. You need a bit of tech support if you want to expand out of its canned features. The number of plug-in and theme freebies is huge so you can do almost anything. We have one that is pretty much dressed out to be a free standing site. It was easy enough to use so that the staff in that department needed

  • RE: Converting pdf's for the web

Thanks Christian, That's what I was afraid of and that's pretty much what we have been doing. There are going to be some unhappy staffers around since we have a good number to do. I did a bunch of these myself and it may be the most boring thing I have ever been involved in. Thanks again.

  • Converting pdf's for the web

Hi, We have a rather large number of pdf's that our organization needs to clean up and convert so that the text can be used for content on our web site. This has turned into a time whirlpool for some of our staff. Cleaning up tags and the amount of time reformatting has become a nightmare. Does anyone have any suggestions on this or can anyone suggest

  • RE: Do you Flash?

Hi Tim, We played with it on a few of our sites. Mostly news tickers and small image albums. Several problems arose when members/visitors with disabilities who use readers and adaptive input devices bogged down. It didn't go over big with accessibility compliance. Also, some of the less sophisticated visitors got shook up when they came face to

  • RE: Charging for online advertising

Stats, that was one of the first things we fine tuned when I recently took over United Spinal's sites. When we filtered out staff visits, search engine bots, graphics that were shared between sites and generating hits and visits, wow. About one third of the visitors and page views disappeared off of the radar. Get good deep stats and don't be

  • RE: Rethink Your Organization's Web Site

Hi, Just finished reading the article and I couldn't agree more. One of the greatest barriers we have had in re-developer our site is getting participating staff to understand the strategies and philosophies. They are/were very much proponents of "build it and they will come" or "post it and the world will come". It has taken much longer to change
