  • Re: DVD Duplication/Duplicator

There are some great standalone CD/DVD duplicator units (no PC required) out there, we got one that can do three discs from one master in one shot, and it takes probably at most 15 mins for a full DVD (most we've done have been about 6 mins). There are models with integrated disc printers, hard drive for storage of popular disc images, etc., more

  • Re: image converter

Just about any good image program can do a TIFF to JPG conversion. I usually use GIMP for the job, plus GIMP has a bunch of other great features.

  • RE: Debian GNU/Linux -- OpenSSL Problem

What it meant to us: We use an Ubuntu driven server and our backups are via Unison which uses SSH. When we applied the updated (part of the automatic updates that come in from the Ubuntu repository). it disables any vulnerable SSH keys - which were the clients set up using Unison. So all I had to do was go to each client (Macs) and re-generate the keys

  • RE: updating old imacs

You can get Tiger (10.4) on these machines, but it is on the slow side (make sure you have enough RAM), I would suggest Panther (10.3) a lot less speed issues and no annoying speed/memory hog features (like spotlight, dashboard).

  • RE: Data projector - or something else?

Many LCD TVs have PC inputs and can be used in pace of projectors. If you get one 26" or less it should be manageable to cary, and it should not be to hard to setup as a projector (finding a blank wall, etc.) Also the TV could be used at an attended exhibit booth to play videos or whatever and be seen in regular light.

  • RE: Fund Accounting Software

Fund accounting is a lot more complex than regular accounting, as you have to manage all the sperate pools of money in your contracts/grants. Two I know of at work which are pretty powerful: AccuFund FundWare I know they will handle most of the accounting points but some of the items on your list may be beyond an accounting app. They can be pretty pricy
