  • Re: need some help...

When you say you checked permissions, does that mean that you are a workstation administrator? It sounds to me like you are not an administrator, based on where the installation failure occurs. What software are you attempting to install, and have you stopped antivirus and closed all other programs during the installation?

  • Re: Blackbaud vs Tessitura

Blackbaud has many different packages, Tessitura is one package. We have 3 different BB apps here, not integrated. Tessitura lacked a major component we needed - might have been membership? Robert, BRAVO! Sure wish folks here would follow such a process.

  • Re: Servers

We are a relatively large non-profit and have been on a 3 year replacement cycle. until recently. now I've been told that the 5 yr old has to go 3 more years (it's currently the oldest and I was denied its upgrade last year and this year). Keep in mind that we lose power FREQUENTLY and until very recently, not even UPS on the servers. The hardware

  • Re: Crystal reports

Are you talking about a vendor app, because it's unlikely the database has a restriction. If the vendor says "install Crystal 8.5 because that's what works with our product", then they may need to provide that to you. This has been the case with us. If this is not a situation of a vendor requiring a certain version, please inform as

  • RE: Financial Edge

We use FE and have for some time (predates my 5 years here). while we also have Raiser's Edge, they are different packages. You could integrate them but we have chosen to not do so. Accounting loves FE, and we are soon adopting the eRequisitions module. I support it (versus use it), and can tell you that it is very easy to support. Biggest pain

  • RE: Volunteer software?

I support the applications, and we decided 2 years ago to go to Volgistics so I have not given this any thought for a very long time, until the volunteer center suddenly decided they needed to know what else was out there and assumed that a software developer would know of every package (with a provided link, now I might!). Given that we are in the

  • Volunteer software?

We have youth and adult programs. Our adults actually log their time via touchscreen. We're probably going to Volgistics, but wonder what else is out there that people like?

  • RE: De-Geeking, Helpdesk and Support

By its very nature, technology is complex, so making technology less complex is just not feasible. Making THE APPLICATION OF TECHNOLOGY less complex is within reason, however. For example, most people do not understand how a browser works, or how it's possible that you can copy and paste among applications. Guess what - you don't have to care

  • RE: BlackBaud -vs- Great Plains

No experience with Great Plains, but like Blackbaud software a lot. It's easy to support (I'm IS), and while a previous poster said they'd had a lot of problems, we have not. We have Raiser's Edge and Financial Edge (both in version 7 using SQL Server 2000) and are strongly considering Patron Edge. Have also looked at their Information
