My computer freezes when I try to sign on to my ISP. Is there anything I can do?

I'm going to start with this assumption: Other than signing on to your Internet Service Provider, your system works wonderfully. With that in place, we'll guess the problem has something to do with your ISP and the associated software.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>Your first line of defense is your ISP's tech support program. Most ISPs have help desks available. Call yours, tell them your specfic problem and have them walk you through the solution. It may be that you need updated software or have some system incompatibility. Of course, this means you have to have documented information about your ISP. Information like a contact name and phone number.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>If you are able to get online and don't want to have to listen to that wonderful hold music, go to your ISP's web site, look through their help files and see if you can find the answer to your problem. Be prepared with details like the version of your logon software, your operating system (Windows or Mac? Which version?). This will help you locate an answer more easily. If the answer isn't there, often you'll be able to post a question and get help.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>You can also go to CNET and plug in the name of your ISP and your problem (logon freeze, for example). Often, someone else has had the problem and there is an easy fix.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>This kind of problem is a little test of your ISP. If they don't have accessible support, you should consider switching. Service, after all, is what that "S" stands for.
