Webinar discussion: Integrating Social Media into Your Website

Is your organization interested in social media but not sure how it will work with your existing online presence? We are conducting a webinar today that will focus on best practices for integrating social media into organizational websites, including basic nuts-and-bolts changes to web page templates and enhancements to contact, staff, and email sign-up pages.

If you aren’t able to attend the webinar, view the recording here: https://cc.readytalk.com/r/lb86fooqh35z. We will post follow-up questions in this forum.

I had a look at the webinar page and I found Aspirations's Publishing Matrix in particular to be a terrific resource. It's a great guide for mapping out your communications and outreach, by noting which resources/channels you will use to promote different pieces of content or events. That way you aren't second-guessing whether you covered all your bases and at the same time, make sure you are concentrating your efforts on the appropriate channels for different types of content.

What social media management tools do you use that help you stay on top of it all?

The Aspirations Publishing Matrix looks very helpful.  Do you know what SSC ans Answr mean in the columns?  Also, do you know if there is an excel version of this so we don't have to recreate it from scratch?

I just finished watching this archive, and I'm glad I did.  What a great presentation about social media.  It was nice because it went beyond the "what is Facebook?" conversation that I've seen so many orgs offer lately, and I absolutely love the publishing matrix and hope to implement something like that here.

One question I have is in regards to getting your org's username on other sites. I would like to use the same username as our FB page on Twitter (where we currently don't have an account), but wouldn't you know someone else has it.  However, he has never posted anything and has no followers.  Of course, it's possible that he's holding on to that domain name for a similar org, which would be disappointing. But do you think it's worth trying to contact him to see if he'd be willing to give it up?  I don't know the politics of something like that.

thanks in advance, and I hope to see more TechSoup webinars like this one!

Anne

My question is about Net Vibes, something that Gunner suggested using to create a dashboard so we can see all of our social media at once. The support on Net Vibes itself is rather minimal. Is there somewhere else I can get a thorough tutorial? Specifically, I am trying to set up a Facebook "widget" that only shows our business page, not my personal page. I see that Aspiration did that on their Net Vibes page, so I know it can be done! I'd also like to know how to create the Twitter search widgets, that show tweets only about certain search terms. And the same for Google.

Thanks!!

Hey,

Sorry for that confusion. SSC ("Social Source Commons") and Answr (www.answr.net) are two of our programs/web sites.

Hey Anne,

I don't think contacting that user is that likely to get you anywhere, but it doesn't hurt to ask!

If your main name is gone, (e.g. "mycause" from mycause.org), you can try concatenating the domain extension, mycauseorg. Or append something intuitive like "online" or your city/state/region. Just be consistent from account to account.

And it's not the end of the world if they don't match, it's just a "would be nice" :^)

peace,

gunner

Hey Tyler,

Alas, I'm not the netvibes guru at Aspiration. If you'll send your question to info@aspirationtech.org, I'll route to our social media worker bee, and he can reply directly to you.

peace,
