Quickbooks TCO

Quickbooks can be acquired thru Techsoup quite inexpensively - I think $45 for a great product. However they have steadily increased the "annual payroll cost" to $275 for 2010, which really makes the Total Cost of Ownership fairly steep. While it is great to provide top quality software at "virtually free" prices, I wonder if there could be more disclosure about the on-going cost. Are there really that many changes in taxes etc from year to year that require this purchase? My accountant insists, and is probably right, but has anyone else found a better way?

Hi Wally,

As you've probably noticed, Intuit has not made the payroll product part of their donation program through TechSoup Stock. They may have it available through Charity Resllers or nonprofit discount programs. I suggest starting with our Quick Guide to Discounted Software Programs.

It is often difficult to keep up with changes made outside of the donation programs since we have a few hundred products and around 40 donation programs at this point. I can put in a request to see if the new versions of QuickBooks can include a more direct link to the Payroll Management website.
