When we were talking about creating videos today, I meant to comment that it might be good for those wanting to slowly wade in to video to go the inexpensive route. This would include using an inexpensive camera, like a Flip camera ($129 - $179ish), and free software like iMovie or Windows Movie Maker (these come bundled with Windows or with your Mac). Note that Flip cameras take video of lesser quality than a more expensive camera, but it would allow you to see what kind of time resources might be required without investing much - and, the file sizes are much smaller.
At the Colorado State Library I've been working with video and have found that indeed it can be incredibly time consuming. At this point we're experimenting with Flip cameras to see what kind of product we can come up with, with little post-production. In progress...
Also - a resource I've used with tutorials, articles, buyer's guides and more related to video is http://www.videomaker.com/.
I'd love to see the video projects others are working on and hope folks post them here!
