Any current studies on volunteer management?

10-14-2009 10:11 AM

Several years ago I read this study, on volunteer management.

Volunteer Management Capacity in America's Charities and Congregations

I wonder what kind of followup may have been done on it, other studies etc, and haven't been able to come on that information through the tried and true method of Google search...

I wonder if anyone else knows if there have been any more recent studies on the state of volunteer management in the nonprofit sector? Did they show a gain in expertese in volunteer management among nonprofits?

Thanks,

Sasha

Hi Sasha!

My name is April Goldstein, I'm the Program Manager at the National Human Services Assembly.  We have been working together with a group of grantees on the Volunteer Impact Fund - a research vehicle and response to the brief you mentioned.  So far, we have written two briefs about promising practices, lessons learned, and overarching themes that were revealed through our grantees projects.  The briefs can be found at www.volunteerinnovation.org, under the "resources" button.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me at april@nassembly.org.  Thanks for your interest!

Best,

April

The Independent Sector does studies regarding on volunteerism in the USA, but not so much volunteer management. Still, check out their most recent studies.

Post your question to CYBERVPM -- that's the most popular volunteer management community in the USA, and if there is a more up-to-date study, someone there will know about it. Also try ARNOVA, an online community of academic researchers who examine volunteerism. If you re interested for other countries, try UKVPMs for Great Britain and OZVPM for Australia.
