Consulting costs

Hi all,

My organization is looking into digitizing our current files and utilizing document management software.  However, we require consulting and training in the new system (SharePoint, or something like it).  Does anyone know if there is a venue for us to get nonprofit discounts on program consulting and training?  For example: does microsoft have nonprofit funding allowances for consulting and training? Thanks!

Hi Becky--

Good question! Since your post has to do with program consulting & training, I'm moving this over to the Tech Planning forum where our experts there can help.

Best,

Megan

Hi Becky, the best way I know of to try and get Microsoft involved with your org in a greater capacity than they do here at TechSoup is to locate a Microsoft Partner near you.  They can propose a project plan to Microsoft and they may or may not be interested in using the project as good press and community involvement.  Keep in mind that there are a lot of people hammering at Microsoft's door, though.  IMO, your best bet to get into Microsoft's donor door is to find a Microsoft Partner that can help (I've linked microsoft's partner locator, find one near you that specializes in sharepoint).  Otherwise, you may be looking for grants.

I don't know any more than I've helped you with.  I just know that a Microsoft Partner approached one of my clients with a proposal like this and it does seem to be a pretty good way to get funding from Microsoft.  I wouldn't hold your breath on it, but it's worth trying.  You may be better off looking for general technology grants from local businesses or foundations that include training as part of it.  I'm really not much of a fundraiser or grant writer.  No, my client didn't get anything from Microsoft.
