But know that you have to have permission from the owner of each number on the list to send them text messages. A so called "opt-in" - if not, you'll be in violation of carrier policies - and not allowed to send again.
I don't think you can do this on Twitter, unless everyone is following you on twitter and all have their preferences set to receive text messages, which is unlikely. Unless you can ask all of your volunteers to turn this preference on.
Other option is something like: http://www.frontlinesms.com/, which takes a little more setting up and has slower throughput, but is a great free solution.
