Scanner for multiple pages

I work for a medium sized conservation based nonprofit. We are looking for a scanner that can do the following:

  1. Duplex scan
  2. Can approx. 35 pages at a time
  3. Handle oversized documents (at least 8.5 x 14)
  4. Have the ability to scan pictures (4 x 6 or similar)

Basically, we are looking for a scanner that can handle document archving and storage.

Does anyone have suggestions? Thanks! Nancy Preston

What do you have for photocopiers?

Are any of them scheduled for replacement soon.

Most of the new copiers have scan capabilities and document feeders.  We use Kyoceria which can email scans or drop them on a share on the server as either a TIF or PDF document.  Also ecopy is a software package to help bridge between the copier and your storage system.  This route makes sense to me as you can have the multi functionality of one machine, have a service contract on the equipment, and when the bulk of the scanning is done you don't have a expensive scanner sitting not being used much.

I've had good luck with the Fujitsu S510 ScanSnap scanners. They're fast, color, multi-page, duplex, sheet fed units.  They come with a copy of Acrobat Standard and they've been holding up well in law offices where they get heavy use.

The current (updated) version is the ScanSnap S1500.

Note: I've only used them with Windows XP so I haven't tested how well they interface with Vista. There is also a model S1500M for Mac's.

The only downside that comes to mind is that they tend to run a lot of background processes, and should only be used with relatively new/fast computers.
