Hi Michael,

Your post about the safety of children makes me think of the many issues related to technology and child safety that are surfacing in our world today. Does your organization deal with any of these in particular? What kinds of technology uses have you found that are helpful in your work?

Best wishes,

Sasha

Cellphone technology plays a huge roll for KPN. NOTICE THIS IS A PROTECTION NETWORK WE CALL911. An everyday citizen witnessing a child in distress, hits 911 to mobilize a speedy response to a child in need.

Hi, Michael,

That is interesting that you are connected to the 911 network. I am not sure how that works - does the central dispatcher have you listed as a resource? Are you connected to the county/state/city social services or law enforcement? I am unfamiliar with how 911 networks are set up and find it interesting that your nonprofit is connected in to it.

Best wishes,

Sasha

Hi, Sasha

Very good question about the 911 connection.

There is no 911 network where KPN is concerned.
The person who sees a child in distress hits 911
same as any kind of public safety issues like fire
and police.

The intent with the 911 part of our program is to
give the everyday citizen immediate access to the
911 system. It also serves a huge role in insuring
the everyday citizen they can access emergency
services if needed.

Speedy information is priceless to the troops in
the field. For example, an Amber Alert is very very
effective. There is an inherit time lag to post an
Amber Alert as the factors necessary to issue an
Amber Alert have to be met.

What the 911 component gives is the everyday
citizen who sees what they believe is a child in
distress or, God forbid, a child is pulled into a car
or van is a rapid-fire resource to get speedy to
law enforcement.

And how many of US have a cellphone?

Thank you for your interest and comments.

Hi, Michael,

I am still a little unclear on this. Do you mean that when your staff at KPN see an urgent problem you call 911? In what way is the 911 service "part of our program"?

Thanks,

Sasha

Hi Michael,

Are you perhaps saying that the 911 component is a training issue that you are informing your constituents not to stand by and do nothing but to take action (call 911) when you see a child in distress?

And that would include programming your cell phone for easy access to 911 and understand how to use it in a stressful situation?

Hi, Dave

911 is a universal emergency number as you know. KPN is
simply saying to call 911 on the cellphone if you see a child
in distress. The dispatcher would connect you to the police
dispatcher who would walk you through a checklist of info
needed to get speedy information out to the officers in the
community.

Thank you for your reply,

Michael
