Changing Facebook from individual to group?

We recently learned that we're on Facebook as an individual...several hundred friends later!  Has anyone had any luck moving from an individual to a group so folks can be fans instead?  Or are we having to start from scratch as a group page?  Any insight would be greatly appreciated!

I asked a knowledgeable Facebook engineer I know your question and this was his response:

I'm afraid we no longer support any migration of users, say from group members to page fans. The case of an individual to a group is even more unusual (since profiles are intended for individuals not groups). I would recommend posting something on the profile, and or messaging friends about the transition with a link to the new page or group.

You are not the only one confused with all the differences between a profile, page, group, fans, friends, etc., especially as there have been changes to how these work over time. I recommend checking out this post here and this post here about what the difference is, as they were very helpful to me in trying to get my brain around it!
