We recently purchased BE 12.5 and according to the Techsoup page, additional agents do not have to be purchased:
The version of Backup Exec available through TechSoup includes all of the available agents and options that enhance and extend platform and feature support for Backup Exec. You do not need to purchase these items separately. These agents and options can be used to improve backup data integrity, reduce backup windows, and extend protection to desktops and laptops as well as to other servers (such as Microsoft Exchange Server, Microsoft SQL server, UNIX and Linux servers, and virtual environments like VMware and Microsoft Virtual Servers).
When I went to fileconnect.symantec.com to download BE12.5, I got the following links:
BEWS_12.5.2213_CPS_32BIT-64BIT.zip 12.5 461,884,203 19-Sep-2008 SHA-1

I called up Symantec support to get some info about each of the downloads (what an adventure). 1st link: Continuous Protect Server, 2nd link: Linux/Unix/Mac/SAP agent, 3rd link: MS Dataprotection server agent, 4th link: ??? (yes, they did not know. He said he thought it was an agent. A 1.7GB agent?), 5th link: BE12.5 32-bit edition, 6th link: BE12.5 64-bit edition.
I asked if the VMware agent was included in one of the packages or if there's any descriptions of the downloads or product manuals. The support agent told me that there was a separate VMware agent download, but if it's not listed in Fileconnect, we do not have the license for it or the ability to download it.
I then put a call into Techsoup support to get some clairfication on what is included in the Techsoup purchase. The support person (Marty) is going to do some research and get back to me later this week. Also, I'll download each of the links and try to figure out what each includes.
If someone has already gone through this exercise and can shed some light, that would be wonderful.
