elearning MyiCourse

Has anyone heard of or used MyiCourse (myicourse.com) I've been through the tutorial and did some experimenting. Looks great and its free. For a small fee you can remove the small google ad at the top of the page and keep that space blank or ad your own ads.

Seems like a great tool for the non-profit sector. I'm getting ready to utilize it myself but was wondering what others thought of it. ALSO wanted to let everyone know of this tool. Can't beat the price of free!!

rebecka, thanks for asking. In full disclosure I co-developed MyiCourse and yes, it is being used by a variety of non-profits as it is web based and does not require IT people or hardware investments for servers. Being free does not hurt much either. However, free is not always a key criteria for a choice. I would be happy to address any specific concerns that you might have to see if MyiCourse is a fit for your group. If not, I will try to tell you what might work better. Its always better to get the fit right on anything before investing any time.

Cool! Good to know I'm talking to the top! :)  Great software!!! I wish I had this about 5 years ago. It's so great that you've made this available!!

I do have a couple of questions that have come up. I sent an email to the support address, but thought it might be good to post my question here so other could benefit.  We noticed you are sharing a SSL certificate.

1. Do you have plans of getting a single SSL certificate so users aren't greeted with a certificate warning?

2. Will you be optimizing your site as one that is "508 Compliant" as set forth by http://www.section508.gov/index.cfm?FuseAction=content&ID=12#Web  While it would certainly meet an immediate need we have, this could be a nice way for you to market your software.  All federally funded agencies need to provide 508 compliant web content (including online courses). Many states have also adopted this federal law as well. For example, all California funded websites must be 508 compliant. I just took a quick look at some myicourse pages and it seems like all you would really need to do is add noscript tags, labels for form inputs, and have alt tags on images. Let me now if you need more information about 508 as I can send you additional resources.

Thanks in advance for your response.

Hi there--

Is your website using MyiCourse? I'm wondering how this relates to the above topic and is not just a promotion of your site. Please be advised that it is not appropriate to use the forums for self-promotion, as per our Community Rules & Standards.

Thanks,

Megan

The date joined data base is based on a different time zone than the date posted data base.  So if you join just before of after midnight your join date may be later than your post date.  I've seen it before in a couple of threads.

When I first started looking into setting up online training on my site, I signed up and tested the MyiCourse material.  I was looking into how to make the courses available on my site.  After doing so, I say that it was going to be a detail involved undertaking and desided to use another resource which did not involve as much web development.

You can look here to see the results:http://www.communitypchelp.com/3401.html

I had made this posting before this was done and my original intention was to use MyiCourse.

If this constitutes a violation of rules, it was also not my intention to do this.  You may delete my entry if need be.

Hi ,Revboyd,

Thanks for your post and sharing your experience with MyiCourse. It is great that you posted your link because it is connected to the topic of the thread and helps others make a good choice.

The reason that your previous link was deleted was that we didn't understand what the connection was between your site and MyiCourse. We try to keep these kinds of links out of the forums. In this case, your link did have a connection, so thanks for explaining.
