Have no idea where to start

LOL And I'm sure I am the only one in the world :rolleyes;
West Coast Rottweiler Rescue has had a new to us used computer donated. The only thing it has on it is Windows XP.
When I look at what TechSoup offers, I'm not clear if these are product updates or actual programs I can purchase to install. The very first thing on my wish list is a microsoft package that will allow me to do word processing, design some basic webpages, and manage day to day computer stuff.
I am going to apologize upfront for what may seem like such basic questions, but I would rather be working with fur than the evil computers :biglaugh;

Hi, Snooks,

Welcome to TechSoup and glad you jumped in. So basic questions are good... and I actually can't answer it. I think we need the help of the TechSoup Stock staff to help you on this. I'll let them know that this question is here. (Most of us are volunteers, and don't work directly with the donations).

Best wishes,

Hello, welcome to Tech Soup. It sounds like you would be in need of Microsoft Office 2003 and Microsoft Front Page 2003. The reason why I recommend 2003 instead of 2007 is because you are on a used computer and might have issues running newer software. Best of luck to you.

Ok, I am trying to order this and am now pretty darn confused. Do I need to buy 5 of any program? There is only little old me LOL

The 5 seat minimum can be filled with other MS products. So you might want to get a copy of Visio and a copy of the Mapping software. then double the quantity so you have the licenses ready when you hire your first staff. You can also order server CALs at a couple of dollars each to fulfill the minimum requirements.

You might note that there are lots of other free open source options available for Windows.

For email, there is Thunderbird, and for word processing and spreadsheets, there is Open Office.
