I am looking for non-widescreen monitors. Anyone have an opinion on a
dell_e198fp.
I find the widescreens take up too much room and don't work well with older video cards.
Thanks!
I am currently using it. Nothing to complaint so far.

It certainly has favorable reviews. I am not a fan of widescreen monitors either. My 17 inch regular dimensions screen is much nicer than the 19i nch widescreen that I use in my workstation staging area. I'm sure I'd change my mind if it were a 22 inch though. :)
Quynh - how do find the brightness? I have viewsonic and a samsung and I like both of them. Personally I like a bright monitor.
Gary - I don't know if even the 22" widescreen is that great. I have tried them and I don't think I would trade my 19" regular. Looks like everything is going widescreen so I will have no choice.
Thanks for the info!
I sell nothing but Dell. We sell the 19" LCDs at $145ea - and ALL of the 19" (any model we've come across) are fine. 1900fp, 1901fp, 1905FP, 1907FP... they are all fine. Can't go wrong.
The attraction to the widescreen is because you can view multiple pages side-by-side and see them at a relatively decent size. For instance, if you have a Word document or a really wide spreadsheet with a bunch of columns ~ you can see both pages or the entire spreadsheet without scrolling.
Personally, I have dual 17" (standard) and it is the best thing since sliced bread. Now, when I go home, I have to look at a single screen, but since most of the time when I'm at home, I'm doing one thing at a time - just browsing the internet or sending emails - it is no big deal.
At work, however, I'll have a dozen different windows open, concurrently. It makes a huge difference to have the dual monitors. My guess is that the 19" widescreen will offer a similar experience to my dual 17" experience.
If you have the desk space (sounds like you don't), dual 17" LCDs is AWESOME.
Do you happen to know how well widescreen works with the dell gx270 on board video cards?
