The Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, BC Chapter (CPAWS-BC) is offering an exciting opportunity in conservation. We are seeking an experienced, innovative and energetic professional to work with a multi-disciplinary team, focusing on the communications and marketing component of our BC work.

CPAWS is one of Canada’s oldest and well respected conservation organizations devoted exclusively to protecting Canada's wilderness. Our vision is to keep at least half of Canada’s public lands and oceans wild – forever. CPAWS is science based, we provide constructive solutions, work
collaboratively, and practise respectful advocacy.

Based in Vancouver, CPAWS- BC has been a leader in terrestrial, marine and coastal conservation in BC and Canada for over 40 years.

We strive for excellence in advocacy, education and cooperative partnerships with environmental groups, industry, governments, First Nations and others to achieve our goals.

Responsibilities include:

* Coordinate CPAWS-BC newsletter and e-newsletter planning, articles, photos and other relevant materials
* Manage all of CPAWS websites to ensure that they are up-to-date, easy to use, and enhance list building and user engagement
* Develop and maintain all of CPAWS lists to increase public engagement in our campaigns in a variety of ways
* Research environmental issues for communications and marketing activities
* Write articles, web site content, and communications materials and marketing materials for a variety of end users
* Maintain files of media stories
* Develop fund raising materials in collaboration with the Executive Director
* Work in partnership with other ENGO partners, as well as collaboratively with First Nations, government, community, business and industry, and academic colleagues to ensure good conservation outcomes are achieved
* Support CPAWS-BC staff’s campaign work in a variety of projects
* Develop products and information that support quality conservation and planning.

Formal qualifications, knowledge and experience:
Degree or diploma in communications.

Skills and Abilities Required:

* commitment to and enthusiasm for conservation and wilderness protection and CPAWS’ style of work.
* excellent web design, content management skills
* excellent with a variety of technology
* excellent research skills
* good understanding of environmental issues, parks and protected
* areas, and oceans issues
* expertise with e-mail, web, and technology outreach and list
* building
* Proven ability to work effectively with a wide range of people from
* diverse cultural backgrounds and positions (e.g. First Nations, government
* agencies, non-governmental organizations and community groups) with
* sensitivity and appreciation for the diverse interests and values of others.
* strong computer skills including a proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Access
* proven research and writing skills
* excellent written and verbal communications skills
* practical knowledge of BC's geography is a strong asset

Terms:

* Initially, a 10-month full-time contract with the potential to renew
* Good benefits
* Based in Vancouver
* Ability to travel
* Starting date - early August
