Hello,
Does anyone know the
exact version / revision of Symantec Client Security (SCS) v3.1, specifically of the Symantec AntiVirus sub-component of the product, that is currently listed as being available from TechSoup Stock?
The reason I ask is because we purchased SCS through TechSoup a couple of years ago, but because it's a donated product, Symantec does not allow us to download program updates for it.
I can understand why Symantec would disallow full-fledged product
upgrades on donated products, but their policy extends to preventing the downloading of even minor version revisions needed to correct bugs in the original donated product.
This is an issue for us because we have a fully-licensed copy of Symantec Backup Exec (BE) 11d that is currently under support with Symantec, and so we are eligible to upgrade to Backup Exec 12, which was recently released by Symantec. However, upon attempting to install BE12, the pre-installation environment check indicates that it is incompatible with our current version of Symantec AntiVirus, as per
http://support.veritas.com/docs/290544:
Symantec AntiVirus 10.1.x version prior to 10.1.6.6000 causes GRT backups to fail. To solve the issue, update AntiVirus version 10.1.x to 10.1.6.6000 or later.
I've looked at moving to Symantec's latest business-oriented AV product, Symantec Endpoint Protection (SEP) 11, but A.) TechSoup doesn't currently carry it, B.) it'd cost us several thousand dollars to license it through a reseller, and C.) many people have reported bad experiences with SEP.
So, because SCS has generally worked well for us, if I could be assured that the version of SCS that I'd receive from TechSoup includes AntiVirus 10.1.6.6000 or later, it'd be most cost-effect for us to just repurchase SCS from TechSoup. However, I can't seem to get information as to what exact revision of SCS I would receive from TechSoup. I tried calling ComputMentor / TechSoup, but the woman who handled my call could not tell me what revision was currently shipping, and suggested that I post my question here. So - here it is. :smile;
Any information or feedback that anyone could provide would be appreciated!
Thanks,
Craig
