Time Tracking Options for Employees

I am looking for a solution for time tracking for employees, and I was wondering what folks use.

I would love web based, so that people could come in to their computer and log in to enter their time and it will all spill into a database I can use to print timesheets. I would also love people to be able to associate each block of time with a different project / program for charging their time.

And finally, above all, I would love a free option for about 12 users (I have only found freeware for less than 10).

Any suggestions on any of these areas?

Thanks!

What OS are your folks using?

Windows XP Professional for the most part. We have a server, but I have yet to effectively manage application deployment, so I am not sure I can have them networked properly yet, hence the desire for web hosted solutions.

FWIW, I have a 50-employee NPO client that uses NETtime from TimeAmerica.

It's web-based and appears to be one of their more basic products (services).

It handles rotating shifts and strange hours. It allows supervisors to make corrections and it has some security features to prevent an employee from, for example, logging in from home and trying to clock in.

I can't tell you much else about it since my only involvement was to set up desktop links for the day staff and a kiosk for the night crew.

What we've done is to create our own internal web site using XAMPP and then went searching for a timesheet script. I will have to look to see which one we use but creating your own webhost opens up several possibilities, all of which are web based but you have complete control and the price is right.

Ok, here is the script that I'm using. Unfortunately it looks like development has stopped on it but it works pretty well in its last version.

We've been using a very reliable time-tracking software for already more than a year. It`s free and very simple. www.actitime.com. They provide good online support. I've alresdy recommended it to a number of friends of mine - no complaints so far)) Please let me know whether it suits your needs. Regards, Maria

We've been using OpenAir for both our timesheets and expenses. Entirely web-based, and accessible through our Salesforce instance. It's not free, but we got a significant discount as a nonprofit organization.

Thanks for all the resources, I periodically look for these and these are new to me.

Has anybody used any time tracking options associated with payroll companies? I'm thinking that might be an option, since I'm going to pay for the payroll service anyway if they had a good online tracking system it would definitely get my attention.

The Time America product refered to earlier exports to just about every payroll company out there. The company I used to work for has it. They switched payroll companies but keep the time software and had no problems doing so. It had some really nice reporting features that sent a PDF report to my e-mail for timecards of the employees I was responsible for on a weekly bases. It could also do job allocations and job reporting. Along with schedules, benefits, and supervisor approvals. Another good one was the Status Board, it help keep track of who was clocked in and clocked out at all times. Since it was web based I could check out our other locations at any time to see who was in/out or at lunch. You should check it out! Kinda wish we had it at my new company...who knows

I have been looking in to a few as well one I found that wasn't too bad was http://products.wrconsulting.com/wrtimetracker/en/ there is a hosted version or you can download the source and run it on your server as a website under php/mysql. Another option I was looking at was Drupal but still need one last piece of the puzzle for calculating totals.
