I had been successfully using Contribute 3.0 to upadte a non-profit website. Suddenly, when I tried to edit a page, nothing would happen. The program would just hang. I contacted the comopany that hosts our site and they said they changed servers, but they had no problem accessing via FTP and no other clients of theirs had reported problems. I removed Contribute from my PC and reinstalled it. I tried to create an FTP connection to my web site and if I leave Windows Firewall enabled, it times out looking or waiting for the server. If I turn off the Windows Firewall, it seems to go through a bunch of file checks on the FTP link but when it gets to the end of tests and diagnostics, it just stops. no connection is created and the program is frozen.
Been checking around the web looking for advice but have come up dry. Can anyone here shed some light on what's happening? Any advice on how to get things running again?
Thanks
Joe
Just because no other customer complained when you contacted them doesn't mean you don't have a problem. Since their servers changed and you started having a problem is a pretty good (but not certain) indication that they need to give you some updated information.
They need to help you and start by seeing if you can "Ping" their server from your location and work through the other settings and configurations.

Can you access the web site with a normal FTP client like Filezilla and browse through the directory structure?
Did you build a new connection key when you reinstalled contribute or use the connection key from the old site?
Is you connection key to the web site an administrator level connection?
Did they change the IP address to your web server and update the DNS?
Can you clean out any contribute locks and drafts on the site? Like contribute is missing some control files on the site and just hangs at that point. (Unfortunately I don't know contribute well enough to identify its lock and control files, other than knowing it makes a bunch of them on the web site.)
Just some other areas to check on.

Thanks for the suggestions. I am trying to build a new connection key ( I assume that's what "create a connection" is all about) and that's where I'm getting stuck. I am, unfortunatley, the administrator. They did not change the IP address or DNS when they switched servers. Finally, I don't really know how to access the site with "a normal FTP client". I'm pretty much a novice volunteer at this stuff.
I also tried to install Contribute on another PC. From that machine, I was able to create a connection to my site and open pages for editing purposes. Unfortunately, that's not my machine so I can't use it for ongoing updates. This suggests to me that it is something with my PC. Correct?
Thanks

Since you can edit the site from another PC that pretty much points the finger to your PC. In your first post you mentioned the windows fire wall changing the symptoms. Are you using only one firewall on the PC?
Some anti virus solutions also include a firewall and you may have a conflict there. Check to see if after you turn off the windows firewall if there is another firewall from your anti virus solution.

I've turned off both Windows and Norton firewalls and get the same result. Makes an FTP connection, goes through a bunch of steps ending with testing permissions, the progress bar runs to 100% and then everything stops.
