hello, i want to setup a wireless router in my house and i just wanted to know if it i HAVE to connect the router to a ethernet port on a computer or is is not nessary because i really just wanted a completely wireless thing. if yes is there a router i can buy that does not need to connect to the ethernet?
If your computer has a wireless card you do not need to connect it (with ethernet cable) to your router, providing your router is also wireless enabled (I'm assuming you mean a wireless access point?).
Cheers, Don
You don't HAVE to hardwire (connect) your computer to the router via a cat5 ethernet cable if the computer is wireless-capable. Every wireless router I've seen has ethernet ports, though, again, you don't HAVE to use them.
ON THE OTHER HAND, it would behoove you to be familiar with hardwiring a PC to the wireless router in case you need to troubleshoot the router and the wireless portion of the router is down for some reason. And to have a patch cable or two around.
Just my two bits.
