Having taken on the task of getting some online sales up and running, I find myself running into one brick wall after another within our organization. While many folks can see the benefits they have never considered the time and effort needed to develop and maintain an online retail prescence. Still others aren't convinced that this whole internet thing is going to last (seriously).
So share your stories with selling items online. What worked and what didn't. If it failed for you, why. If has been a success for you, why. How are you able to measure the impact on your organization. How much of a commitment has it been?
I'm hoping to gather stories that will help me sell the idea but keep it realistic as well. I'm sure there are other groups out there that would benefit from this discussion as much as I hope to.
Big question, and I don't have a simple answer for you or a retail story. But I do know of a non-profit organization that say they have generated $1.7 Million since they started up a retail-type site in 1992:
Public Radio Musicsource.
This not a typical example (why not?) but it shows you what can be done.
