Hi All-
This one's got me puzzled. I have searched Gigabyte's site with no luck.
We have a home-built pc running with a Gigabyte GA-7N400 motherboard, AMD Athlon XP 3200+ processor, and currently 512mb. of DDR400 PC3200 RAM.
What is happening is that the machine isn't detecting the 1gb. module that I am trying to install.
When booted with just that, there is only power-up, nothing else.
I have never run into this before, so I really need help! (Which may contradict my computer skills :smile; )
Thanks as always,
Michael

Hi Michael - have you determined any limitations on clock speed or voltage with the memory you bought and the acceptable memory for the motherboard? Does the motherboard manual show that a 1GB configuration is possible with 1 chip - or do you need 2x512 to get it?
I don't suppose you have any other machines you could test the RAM in. Since it works fine with the 512, I would say the 1GB chip is suspect. Can you return it for another one?
I looked in the mobo book and it only shows up to 512mb sticks, but how is a 3gb configuration possible with only 4 slots if it cannot take 1gb sticks?
I don't have another machine available, and I am reluctant to return it to try another brand because of a 15% restocking fee. (unless it is bad).
Any other thoughts/ideas/suggestions.
Thanks,
Michael

Hey Michael, I checked the crucial website with your motherboard model, and 1gb sticks are compatible.
Here is a link to the compatible memory. Hope this is somewhat of a help. Have a good weekend.
Thanks Gary...I am guessing it is probably a bad stick after what I have looked at.
You enjoy your weekend also...
Michael
When you return it to the store come wiht the print outs from the web site to show the "experts" in the store and avoid any restocking/exchanges fees.
I am just going to RMA it back to NewEgg and tell them it was bad. If they ask questions, I will do that.
Thanks,
Michael
