upgrading from windows 95 to windows XP

Hello,

I have on old Compaq computer (presario 4508)which I have not used for a while. It is loaded with the windows 95 version. I would like to replace the current version with Windows XP. Since I had no use of the old data I used the Compaq Presario Quickretore CD to start the computer anew (to have Win XP instead of win95). However during the quickrestore process I was asked to enter the certificate of authenticity. Unfortunately I was not able to locate the certificate (i believe I lost the docs during the moving process. I now live overseas)
Is it possible to just use the windows XP CD and ignore the old version win95?
Thank you

You do not need to restore the computer to load XP, BUT make sure the system meets the requirements for XP AND that the XP version is NOT an upgrade

Hope this helps...

I googled the presario 4508, and there is no way that you will be able to upgrade this to Windows XP. The hard drive is only 4.3GB, only 24MB of RAM, and a 233Mhz processor. You'll probably be stuck with Windows 95, or Windows 98. Good luck.
