• Technical certification (A+, MCSA, MCSE, etc.) and/or experience in an IT support role

Year Up offers outstanding benefits and a competitive salary commensurate with experience.
Deadline for Applications: 25 November

The ISEAL Alliance helps to make social and environmental standards like Fairtrade and Organic better. As an international membership network, we work with a diverse group of organisations worldwide that are committed to global change. We are looking for a Network Weaver to be the vibrant animator behind our online community.

About You

You are energetic and opportunity seeking. You thrive on making connections and building relationships. You can read people really well, instil confidence and communicate tactfully and honestly. You are in your natural element using social media but can relate to those who are afraid of it. You understand how social and environmental standards and certification works and are eager to stimulate learning about how to improve these systems. You can grasp complex and technical issues and communicate clearly about them. You can think strategically but also respond well to a rapidly evolving environment. Most of all, you believe that we urgently need to change the way the world does business and want to be a voice for social and environmental change.

What You’ll be Doing

ISEAL community members are improving how voluntary standards are developed and implemented and are creating an environment that supports their use. Our online community is a place where our members and others will find resources, share information, discuss and collaborate on projects that help them to do their work better. As the Network Weaver, you will be the person who animates and manages this work, creating a vibrant community of engaged participants who learn together. You will:

have strategic responsibility for managing the community and how it functions and evolves over time;

be instrumental in growing the network of community participants and strengthening the quality of engagement;

maintain an overall picture of the community and connect people with each other and with the resources they need;

facilitate discussions and encourage exchange between participants and show people how to build trust through low-risk collaborations;

identify and cultivate core influencers within the community and find ways to support the participation of those people on the network’s periphery;

create content through blog posts, finding and developing new and relevant resources to share with the community;

build the capacity of ISEAL staff and community members to take on network weaving roles;

advise on technology needs to support the community and troubleshoot technical problems; and

monitor and report on the effectiveness of the community as a forum for learning and exchange.

What We’re Looking For:

The Network Weaver will be someone who is:

proficient and comfortable with Web 2.0 and social media tools, including Drupal-based platforms;

experienced working with socially and environmentally-focused NGOs or businesses, with a basic understanding of social and environmental standards and certification;

outgoing, confident, diplomatic, and has an innate curiosity;

articulate and has exceptional writing skills, tailored to a variety of mediums;

able to engender trust easily; and

highly organised and can think strategically.

A full set of selection criteria are included as an appendix to this job description.

About the ISEAL Alliance:

ISEAL is the global association for social and environmental standards systems. We work to scale up the social and environmental impacts that result from the implementation of these systems. ISEAL shapes the context in which voluntary standards systems operate, by defining what good practice looks like for the sector, as well as through influencing how external stakeholders think about and engage with credible voluntary standards systems. ISEAL Alliance members such as the Forest Stewardship Council and the Fairtrade Labelling Organizations are leading organisations in social and environmental standard-setting and certification, and are committed to compliance with ISEAL Credibility Tools. ISEAL has offices in London and Brussels with satellites in Canada and the United States.

There is a strong preference for this position to be based in London or Brussels but strong candidates from other locations are invited to apply.

Earth.org is building a Web2.0 travel guide with a responsible mindset, collaboratively sourced from users and travellers around the world. At Earth.org we don’t just talk about responsibility, we act, by giving at least 50% of our profits to environmental, social and cultural projects. Our 100% remote team works from around the world on our silently launched beta, and we want your support to get off the ground. We are a small, open-minded, and dedicated team looking for a few good people to work independently at the workplace of their choice - be it a beach in Goa, a cafe in Paris or your bedroom in San Francisco. If you are passionate about sustainable travel and would like to help us create this responsible, inclusive and free travel guide we want to hear from you.

Earth.org is looking for a Software Tester, responsible for the quality assurance of the entire Earth.org website.

Your job

You will communicate directly with the software developers to make them correct the bugs. You don’t need to be a software engineer yourself and you don’t need skills in coding since you are testing from the view of the internet user.

Your profile

- Ideally, you have relevant experience in the software testing industry (automated and manual)
- You work very precisely and have a great attention for details
- You have a strong Internet affinity, ideally you have experience in the web 2.0 field and a passion for the Internet
- We expect English language skills
- You are totally dedicated to your job and work 100% self motivated
- You have experience in working remote
- You have strong cross-cultural skills and share our environmental, social and cultural friendly mindset

What else do you need to know?

Location: remote work at your preferred location
Minimum time involvement: 5h/week
This is a volunteer position. We are a wiki-based website with an open atmosphere where everyone is invited to contribute. Earth.org is in the initial beta and as an early adopter and volunteer team member you will have the chance to help shape the future of an exciting project. We offer an enriching and challenging experience, and the chance to see your responsibilities and desires grow alongside the project.
Time horizon: minimum 12 months, preferably long-term

TechSoup Global is a nonprofit organization that has been successful in creating a suite of high impact services that facilitate corporate philanthropy and benefit community service organizations in a financially sustainable model. For more than two decades, our mission has been to work toward the day when every community service organization on the planet has access to the technology resources and information they need to achieve their own missions. Founded in 1987, we currently have more than 170 staff members and an annual budget of about $23 million. TechSoup Global helps other nonprofits better serve their missions by acquiring and using technology, implementing web and social networking, and receiving grant funding and product donations.

Working with capacity-building partners across the world, TechSoup Global is actively expanding our program outside the US. We establish partnerships with in-country NGOs to implement our highly effective product donation program, while adapting to local business practices, laws, and cultural imperatives. In the process, we’re building a global network of partners all focused on empowering NGOs through the effective use of technology. We’re in 22 countries to date and adding more each month.

Through our TechSoup Stock website, nonprofits find a broad range of software donated by leading tech companies such as Microsoft, Cisco, Symantec, Intuit, and Adobe, along with content and community resources tailored specifically for a nonprofit audience. To date we have enabled over $1 billion in technology donations world wide.

Based upon the strength of our global network, our expertise in building scalable web systems, our history of working both with donors and with recipient NGOs, and our experience building one of the fastest growing sustainable social enterprises, TechSoup Global was recently selected to build a new service for international philanthropy. Backed by major foundations and key philanthropy sector partners, this new service will create a global database of nonprofits and NGOs, making it easier and less costly for international grantmakers to provide cash grants to social benefit organizations in countries outside the U.S.

TechSoup Global is dedicated to creating and supporting an environment of openness, trust, and fun where people's differences are valued and respected, and where people of diverse backgrounds participate fully in our organization. We believe that the diverse cultures and perspectives of our staff will help us better serve our clients.

AEP Snapshot

The Audience Engagement Platform (AEP) is a new, innovative technology solution that will dramatically reduce the barriers to audience participation and social involvement in the arts. AEP is currently in the design stage with substantial financial backing from the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation and Rockefeller Foundation. AEP’s relationships in the arts, business, and technology communities run deep, and its creator has and will be presenting AEP widely at major conferences, including FORTUNE Brainstorm: Tech and PopTech. AEP has already attracted major articles and media attention from news sources including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Fast Company. Chris Elam and the non-profit Misnomer Dance Theater have incubated, popularized, and developed AEP to its current stage.

AEP Background and Vision

The American non-profit arts and cultural sector generates $134 billion in economic activity every year. That represents a lot of people of diverse backgrounds enjoying theater, music, dance and visual art. However, while there are many individual examples of isolated innovations in the arts, most audience experiences of the non-profit arts are often one-dimensional: audiences buy tickets and sit in seats, or tour a museum on their own. There are typically few opportunities for audiences to interact or connect directly with the artists. Likewise, it is rare that audiences can experience the dynamics of the creative process, network with people with similar arts interests, or deepen their engagement with artists or art forms they like. This slows the development of arts-centered community and limits artists' exposure. Furthermore, artists and arts organizations often lack simple and economical solutions to effectively interact directly with their audiences, manage their businesses with up-to-date web-based technology, and build their audiences, revenues, and bases of support over time.

The Audience Engagement Platform is a compelling suite of digital tools and services for artists, arts organizations and audiences that address these needs, intended to horizontally assist a broad range of artists and organizations. It will facilitate social networking connections among and between artists and audiences, increase the size and diversity of audiences, and jumpstart individual’s deep engagement with and contribution to artists, arts institutions, and the creative process.
