Out of all of the solutions I have mentioned here, only one is Open Source: The Gimp. The others all seem to be either paid commercial or free trial versions.

The OP didn't specify which OS, so I'm gonna assume Windows.

I would suggest checking out ImageMagick for Linux, Mac or Windows. It's a very flexible Open Source suite of tools that supports tons of formats and operations. Because it is a command line utility, it is very fast and can be used to do batch processing of large amounts of files.

If you use a major Linux distribution such as Ubuntu, you can install it via the package manager.

I like Irfanview. It is small and simple and it can modify a batch of pictures quickly.

Another great free option is XnView. Along with Irfanview it's probably the most recommended image converter and viewer, but I prefer XnView by a good margin. XnView supports more formats (over 400 for viewing, 50 for saving to), is more frequently updated, has decent filter and image adjustment functionality, an image browser, tabbed interface, is highly customizable, has great screen capturing system built-in, powerful batch processing, and a lot more.

If you need something to do batch conversions of many photos, Irfanview is free and offers this ability.

Just about any good image program can do a TIFF to JPG conversion. I usually use GIMP for the job, plus GIMP has a bunch of other great features.

Does anyone have any experience with either Reasoft Image converter or Imageconverter. Both offer free downloads of their software. I am looking to convert some photos from TIFF files to JPEG for publishing.
