I have been looking for a cheap event registration for our annual conference. One I have found that I really like and I think we are going to go with is Eventville (www.eventville.com). It has a number of advanced features and is very cheap compared to other companies I have looked at. It is $39.99 for event activation and only $0.99 per participant. Just my two cents.

A great simple free tool to schedule a meeting and determine the availability of multiple people for multiple possible meeting times is http://www.doodle.ch/ . It is a web 2.0 service that does one thing and does it very well.

Brown Paper Tickets (www.brownpapertickets.com) is also a great resource -- if you're looking for a headcount & contacts and/or a way to sell tickets. I don't believe it does email invites or follow-up. I've used them to post events with a ticket price, but it looks like they handle free events, too. Their service was helpful and friendly.
