Thanks, Charise, you're getting me interested in giving the updated Tweetdeck another try. I agree, the lack of search is crazy! Does that mean you can't even search Twitter by keywords or is it only the user search that is lacking on the mobile application?

I've been using Tweetdeck on my Mac and iPhone since the new release came out. Love the desktop version. iPhone app is great EXCEPT there seems to be a bug that makes the app crash when I add someone to a group. If I stick to managing my groups through the desktop version the app doesn't give me any problems and has been great to use. Hopefully this bug will be fixed soon as I've written Tweetdeck folks about it.

Prior to Tweetdeck I used Tweetie. The one thing the Tweetie iPhone app seems to do much better than Tweetdeck is [Search] and [Go to User] just by typing in the username or search terms. As of now, the Tweetdeck iPhone app only has a [Quick Follow] button.

I'm sticking with Tweetdeck because I use the columns to organize the flow of info, like the seemless connectivity to Facebook, and I can easily manage two accounts, @charisevanliew & @FLYyouthDC, without having to use yet another app like HootSuite. Also, I'm expecting Tweetdeck to add a search function to the iPhone app soon since that's a basic function that should be available.

Hi Matthew--

I noticed that Tweetdeck just had a big update for their application that includes a lot of new features, including an iPhone app (which Tweetie also has). I'm curious, do you use Tweetie on the iPhone? How does it compare?

Previously I'd been using Tweetdeck, since I use a mix of Mac and PC, but I just started to give Seesmic desktop a try. Seesmic lets you support multiple Twitter accounts (which the latest version of Tweetdeck will now let you do) and your Facebook account (now if they would just add LinkedIn and FriendFeed support, I'd give up Pingfm forever)! Like Tweetdeck, its desktop client works for both Mac and PC and will let you save searches and group people you follow. No iPhone app yet, but that's supposedly in the works.

So far the multiple accounts is the biggest plus for me, plus I like the more intuitive UI. Seesmic also has a neat feature where you can click "shorten text" and it will shorten your tweet in text speak where possible (for example "4" instead of "for").

Anyone given the new Tweetdeck a try? Seesmic? Or do you prefer Tweetie or another Twitter client? Do tell!

Tweetie vs Tweetdeck

I've been using Tweetdeck for quite some time. I really like the sleek columns that allow for easy filters on keywords. Having real-time updates on those filters is useful if you are trying track a single subject like "Drupal" or "pingV". The filters are saved when you close down Tweetdeck which is handy because the Adobe Air application appears to have memory leaks.

Tweetie allows you to have your friend stream, replies, direct message, and one search in a single column. By clicking twice on a tweet which has replies, it gives you a view of all messages in that thread. You can create new searches that run parallel to the primary window. However, when you shut Tweetie down, all your searches are lost and you have to recreate them from scratch. Tweetie is visually beautiful.

The Tweetie interface is intuitive and easy to use. However, unlike Tweetdeck, it doesn't seem to have an audio or visual queue that a new Tweet has been added to your stream. That could be good or bad depending on how you are using Twitter.

Tweetie has both a paid and a nonpaid license. If you choose to not pay, the software is supported by ads.

Oh, and finally, Tweetie is ONLY for the Mac.
