I just heard about two other resources that provide similar functionality as Google Sky. Stellarium is a free, open-source computer planetarium. There's also the free space simulation, Celestia. Celestia also has hundreds of add-ons of further 3D objects and models. Definitely worth checking out. Anyone used either of these before?

TechSoup Blog alerts us to another Google Earth development called Google Sky. which lets you explore other galaxies and stars. My mind is buzzing with even more possibilities for how Google Earth could be used, perhaps for educational purposes, presentations, and even research.

What do you think of Google Earth's ever-expanding features?

This is really exciting program. that we also mention in this blog entry. This also reminded me of another recent post that discusses the importance of sharing information graphically--visuals can speak a thousand words for presenting data in a compelling way. That's another key way that a program like this can have a huge impact. There are just so many possibilities for nonprofits to use this tool in creative and effective ways, depending on the type of work they are engaged in. I could also see the potential application for nonprofits involved in community or ciivic improvement, disease prevention, and political activism.

The recently launched Google Earth Outreach program allows people to virtually visit your nonprofit's projects, helping them better engage with your mission and cause.
