That's OK, just thought it was worth asking - I'm sure we can help you work it out!

Agree with the poster above - a good antenna will serve you better than a booster, although you should try just a single directional antenna first rather than buying two straight up (point it to the standard Wireless Access Point Antenna at the other end) - I've setup links much longer than 600 ft with a single directional antenna pointing at the small dipole antenna provided with the Wireless Access Point - duel directional antennas are more commonly used for links in excess of several kilometers.

The good news is... your line of site sounds good and I think you should be able to get a Wireless link up and running with minimal problems providing the antenna you buy is properly wind-rated (noting your comments on weather - check out the pic of the antenna in the link in my post above)

Re: Please Help: DSL/Telephone Line Shared between (600 feet) 2 properties?

It is all about antenna. Forget the signal booster(it only work in omni mode). You need to get two really good directional antenna and point them ateach other.

The link has been up for nearly 3 years without requiring any maintenance on my part.

Can you see one site from the other when you look out a window? - This is the critical point when considering line-of-site wireless.

Re: Please Help: DSL/Telephone Line Shared between (600 feet) 2 properties?

If you can get the wireless set up with out contracted labor and services then if you can get all your money back if it doesn't perform for you, that could be a great way to try it out.

If you have to have an electrician mount and wire antennas on the outside of the buildings to point to each other then you are on the hook for the labor and parts.

The risk I see is if it works great in nice spring weather, but fails during a thunder / wind storm or if you are in a snow area, have it fail during snow or ice storms.

I would look at external higher gain directional antennas also.

The next best would be to use a bridge device that will let you run the Ethernet network between the buildings with a long copper link between. Black Box and others sell equipment to extend an Ethernet network between buildings.

http://www.blackbox.com/Store/Detail.aspx/Ethernet-Extender-Data-Only/LB200A-R2

The last option would be to run native 10mb Ethernet between the buildings on copper wiring.

With any of the copper wire solutions you must install station protection at each end of the wire to prevent a dangerous or possibly fatal situation. If one of your buildings were to experience a power surge or lightning strike, that voltage spike could travel through the copper wire between the buildings and cause damage to people or equipment connected inside the other building. The phone company mitigates the risk by installing station protection on each end of the wires traveling between buildings (even on cables buried underground.)

This can even be an issue if the ground reference between the building changes. (kind of like people who got electrocuted by touching the disk washer and refrigerator at the same time and there was a grounding issue with one of the appliances.)

That is why the Fiber optic is the best solution.

Your phone line between the buildings needs the station protection also.

In order to share your internet connection between 600 feet, you need to have something to repeat the signal every 328 feet(hub, switch).

Wireless bridge with directional antenna to connect the two sites is the way to go.
