Our organization is registered with iGive.com for quite some time now. So far, this has not provided any funding for us. Fortunately, sign up was free, so it is not costing us anything either. We have been approached by causelink.com, but have not made a decision on that particular service yet.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>We also recently subscribed to amazon.com's "honor system" and have added links for making donations through paypal.com as well. We have received some limited response to those two services. However, we've only had the links for about 2.5 weeks, so it's a bit early to tell on them.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>We're also registered with idealist.org, which has brought us some attention, especially since their redesign.<:LINEBREAK:><:LINEBREAK:>Valerie

Starting just last month I used Justgive and Giveforchange as a donor, and two of the local nonprofits I am a board member of signed up to accept donations. Neither could accept credit cards before. It took a month for them to get the check, at full value of the donations made.

Visit http://www.igive.com to get an idea of what this is. We still have had no success using this for a fundraising tool, but we are not a "member organization," so don't have an existing body to promote it to. We do experience some success by creating "donation opportunities" through Amazon.com and Paypal.com. Donations have ranged from $1-$50 per donor less the fees charged by either service for handling the transactions. Paypal.com charges lower fees, but more people are signed up to purchase from Amazon.com.

How do they work? Are they nonprofit orgs. themselves or are they companies that just make donations to the nonprofits?

I have been using iGive.com for a year now. It costs me nothing, but my organization gets a precent of all my online shopping with participating .coms. And there are a lot of participants. However, I am the only member of my Organization that uses our iGive.com site. But still, every little bit helps and it costs the organization nothing to participate. The good thing is...I do almost all of my shopping online, because I hate shopping and like no taxes and free shipping options.

If you are interested in a new alternative for online fundraising, take a look at
GiveStream. It offers a set of free and easy-to-use online fundraising and community-building tools that help schools and other nonprofits create their own branded easy giving center.
I am just hearing of the concept... came for the Techsoup online event and am kinda lost @ how to join in....

Hi Usman,
The concept is simple,
When your supporters shop online through your GiveStream Center, the merchants pay a commission to
GiveStream. We provide the listed donated percentage to your organization.
If you need more details you can find me at michael (at) givestream (dot) com
We've been using iGive for about a year. It doesn't result in a lot of money, but every little bit helps. We usually put a brief little note about iGive in our quarterly newsletter. I think most of the money actually comes from our volunteers using it. But it's free, and we get enough money to cover a few vet visits.
