I'm looking advice on best approaches to email newsletters. Do folks recommend sending out the entire newsletter by email? Or should one send a short message telling subscribers to visit a web page for the latest issue? Or some hybrid of the two with highlights of what's covered & a link to a webpage? Or some other approach that I'm not thinking of?
Thanks! I'd appreciate any advice based on readers' own experience, or recommendations of good website to check out for more info on this topic.
Great question! You want your newsletter to be appealing and draw people in to see the fuller content on issues of interest.
I suggest doing a table of contents at the top, so people know what they will find below. I personally really like the approach you mentioned-- with highlights of key points and a link to your website for more information.
The Activist Toolkit on http://www.onenw.org/bin/page.cfm/secid/5 has great info on email news. Another great resource is: Strategic Communications in the Digital Age at the Benton Foundation, http://www.benton.org/Practice/Toolkit/.

We are a nonprofit organization over a year old. We send each months complete newsletter to member via e-mail. Most like getting the newsletter directly and enjoy reading it.We do also archive our newsletters on our website www.wsana.org.
Hope this is at least a partial answer to you.
