Accounting Software, specifically Dynamics GP

Hi,

I've been researching a few accounting packages recently and have narrowed my focus to do a little testing with Dynamics GP and Sage's MIP accounting software.  Has anyone used either or both of these products?  Were there any pitfalls you wished you had known about before choosing one or the other?

I plan on installing their respective demos to start comparing these two products, but one factor in an eventual purchase would be the availability of these software packages on TechSoup.  I did look an the article on accounting software in the learning center, is that any indication of what products might be offered by TechSoup in the future?

I'm basically looking to upgrade from Quickbooks to get better reporting functionality and room for growth, both MIP and Dynamics GP would suit me fine as far as I can tell.

Thanks,
Jon

Jon,

I looked at both MIP and Dynamics GP.  I had an on-line demo of Dynamics GP and attended an informational training session on MIP.

I was not impressed with Dynamics GP.  It was driven by purchase orders which we don't use much, so just entering a bill for a vendor and coding it to the right account was a 4-5 step drill down process.  It wasn't all on one screen like Quickbooks (and Peachtree, which we use)   They also didn't seem to have as easy a functionality with reports and allocations as MIP.

I haven't done a "hands-on" with MIP, but the training session did show how items were entered.   Purchase orders were allowed, but not required.  Quickbooks and Peachtree don't handle allocations very well.  MIP allowed the user to build several different allocation tables and tie them to either vendors or account codes.  That way, the utility bills could be split across programs with one allocation table according to space and other costs could be split across programs with another allocation table according to FTEs.

Good luck,

Joni
