Here is a list of free open source applications that might be of use to nonprofits.

(If you find one you like, do share!)

Thanks Rog.  A lot of ones I have not heard of that I will be checking out.  One I use a lot from the list is Notepad++ .  I love being able to open multiple txt files in tabs and it seems to format things much better than the normal notepad.

Very nice compilation of useful free apps.  I've used quite a few of them.  I hadn't tried UltraVNC, but use Real VNC.  I downloaded Ultra for a test drive the file transfer feature will be very handy as this is something I couldn't do with the free version of RealVNC.

I use Outlook Attachment Remover on a daily basis.  It strips attachments from Outlook and saves them to a designated spot on your hard drive, then places a link to the file in the place of the attachment.  It works pretty slick.

Oooh, sweet - so essentially you are not sotring your attachments in a ridiculously sized .PST file - making it easier to maintain and less chance of corruption?  Does anyone know how it works with Exchange as the backend:

  1. Using cached mode (with a ,OST file)
  2. non-cached mode

Another interesting source of open source software for Windows is www.theopendisc.com. There are two discs, the OpenDisc (requires a DVD as it is 830MB) and the OpenEducationDisc (fits on a CD-ROM). Much of the content overlaps. The OpenDisc has Mozilla Sea Monkey and some games on it. The OpenEducationDisc has some additional education software and some tools that might be useful for students and teachers.
