Toshiba Laptops

I have a Toshiba laptop a Satellite U405-S2918.

The problem I’m having is that when I connect my flat screen monitor to it and close the laptop there is no display on the monitor screen I notice this only happens with the Toshiba brands. This doesn’t happen with the hp or Compaq that I have. I can’t even connect a projector to if I do I have to leave the laptop open.

I went to the display settings and change it from #1 is laptop and #2 is monitor and all that but nothing is working, just wondering if it’s something else I’m missing or is it just the Toshiba Brands.

Thanks Usef

Hello Usef, I am willing to bet that your laptop  goes on standby when you close your screen.  You can remedy this by going to the power settings in control panel.  Under the power options, look for the advanced tab.  There is a drop down menu that says "when I close the lid of my portable computer."  Change the drop down to "do nothing" or something like that.  (I'm doing this from memory.)   Click ok to apply the changes and you should be all set to give it a test.  Hope this helps,

Best of luck,

Gary

*edit*  I gave this advice with the assumption that you have windows XP installed.  If you have Vista, please let us know.

Toshiba might have also installed some management tools to manage what happens when you close the screen.  Look for Toshiba branded software applications.
