Streamling Donor Thank You emails

I’m contacting you because I wanted to see if you could help us out with a recent problem. We have launched our website and have had a spike in online donations. However, we are having difficulty integrating our donor software with our online donations. We use Raiser’s Edge 7 to track our donors which have historically been offline donors. We use a partner’s online credit card processing system on our website. So, we receive an excel file from our partner with the donor’s name, contact info and donation amount. We can successfully upload that information into Raiser’s. However, what we are having the most difficulty with is generating personalized thank you emails to donors with the amount they donated. Does anyone know of email/donor software that can generated personalized emails with donor name and donation amount using an excel file as the data file?

Have you tried using Mail Merge to create custom email messages?

We only use Mail Merge for snail mail, so I can't vouch for the process. I imagine it'd be pretty straightforward since your data is already in Excel.

your online donation module from your website (ideally free) should generate automatic custom letters to anyone who donated online.  You should be able to always return to the online donor database to either send tax receipts or export in excel.
