TechSoup Users;

I was referred to your forum although our project is not organized as a 501(c)(3). I am on a team of five university students and engineers who are exploring obstacles to implementing internet technology in a rural village in Honduras, and the benefits of connectivity for accessing educational resources, healthcare information, etc. We have received a Jefferson Public Citizens grant from the university to do so.

If anyone knows a way such a student group could solicit a private donation of used computers and computing equipment, your suggestions would be very helpful.

Cordially,

Robert

Hi Robert--

Welcome to TechSoup! Thanks for introducing yourself and letting us know about this interesting project of yours. This sounds very exciting--how long is your project funded for?

I have a couple of suggestions for where you can try to get computers and computing equipment. This TechSoup article has a list of discounted and donated software options. There's also our Recycled Hardware List where you can find recycled and refurbished hardware.

Hope this helps get you started--please do let us know how your project progresses.

Best,

Megan

Robert, in the case of a medical school LAN in Afghanistan that I helped set up, someone in the group just wrote Cisco and asked for the gear.

That was in 2002 or so, but try writing to the companies directly.
