What are your thoughts of Google Chrome

Has anyone downloaded Google Chrome and replaced their browsers with it? I was curious what people thought about it before I download it myself. I've seen someone else use it and it appears really fast, but don't really know much whether it's functional, reliable, etc.

I use Chrome as my primary browser at home. I like the streamlined UI. It really feels well designed and well thought out.

The biggest problem that I've found is that some sites don't recognize Chrome as a compatible browser. For example, when a page has a media clip and it checks to make sure your browser is up-to-date enough to handle everything... the page usually only accepts IE/Firefox (even though I doubt Chrome would have a problem).

A specific example would be that you can't watch TV shows on ABC.com using Chrome.

Other than that, I haven't had any trouble.

David, I don't know how on my own and I've never actually used Chrome (I find Firefox fine, no desire to switch).  However, I have heard podcasts that reference the ability of Chrome to mimic other browsers.  I know Opera can do this - it just reports to the server that its browser "so-and-so" instead of Chrome and the server says "OK".  So have it emulate Firefox and see if you can see the videos.  You may need a Google search to find out how or just dig through the options.

I downloaded Chrome a while back to see what the fuss was about.  I used it for a day or 2 because it was the latest thing.  It worked ok, didn't have many issues with it, but got back to using Firefox and IE.  Its worth a download and test drive to see if you like it.

My opinion of Chrome...

It's great for people who can't find the right plugins for Firefox.

I'm sure it'll take off in a few years, but for now it's sorta "meh", IMO

Chrome is also my primary browser at home. I like the home page where all your most viewed websites are thumbnails. The only problem I find in Chrome is the bookmark. I don't like their bookmark settings.

I'm still a firefox user, though I do like Chrome- I rotate around Opera, Firefox, and Chrome now and then. Chrome is nice and fast, but it suffers from "so what?" syndrome; there's really nothing it brings to the table that other browsers don't already bring as well (though firefox did ape Chrome's incognito window, if I recall correctly). I wouldn't discourage anyone from using it, but I don't see any obvious advantages it has over the competition.

As for changing the user-agent string, this blog here has some info on how to do it- looks like you have to hex edit the chrome.dll file. Not for the faint of heart, I suppose, but I don't think it will be too long until Chrome supports some sort of user add-on to do this automatically! (Maybe it does already, haven't used it in a couple of versions).

Chrome is good but it sometimes crashes when the page has lots of pictures
