Help with pcAnywhere 12.5

We recently purchased pcAnywhere 12.5 to replace LogMeIn. (We needed something more secure and we had problems with LogMeIn kicking us off the remote connection.) I have had some success in setting up the program, however, it does not seem to be working on all computers. I was able to connect a host computer in the office to another computer that should be serving as a host, but I have not been able to connect any of the host computers with their remotes. Each time I try to connect one of the remotes with either host computer, it informs me that a connection could not be made. The host computers are running off of a Linksys router and the remote computer is running off of a NetGear router and using Comcast. I know that Comcast does not provide static IP addresses, so I assigned a static address for the remote computer. PcAnywhere has turned into a huge disaster and I have wasted plenty of hours trying to get the program to work, so if anyone has any ideas, please let me know!

PC Anywherer use TCP port 5631, so just forward that port and you should be able to connect to the host.

I use Comcast, and I got a static IP.

Quynh, I think a more complete answer may be more helpful here in case users do not know how to forward TCP ports.

As for the problem at hand, as Quynh said, you need to forward TCP port 5631.  This tells your router that when PC anywhere tries to connect to the host computer to pass it to that particular computer.  Without knowing which Linksys router you have, this link should steer you in the right direction.  I've done this setup and it works very nicely.  Hope this helps.

Best of luck,

Gary

I believe the problem is with the remote computer, which has a Netgear router. I was able to connect the computers with the Linksys routers without a problem. What I'm having an issue with is connecting the host computer (with the Linksys router) to the remote computer (with the Netgear router). Can I still use the same instructions? When I was previously setting up the host computers, I did the port forward and it shut down my internet completely until I disabled the forwarding.

I'm not very familiar with the GUI for the Netgear routers, but I would assume that the setup would be quite similar.  Here is a link to netgear port forwarding.  Hopefully that will resolve your issues.

Best of luck,

Gary

Funny that I've never worked with a Linksys or a Netgear.

If port forwarding is not working for you, then you should really need to consider setting up a VPN connection.
