Hi All,
This seemed an appropriate place to share this, forgive me if it's not.
We recently launched a new web site for a elearning game we started while we were Peace Corps Volunteers in Kenya. The software is called SmartQUIZ. It was originally developed as a true false game aimed at educating Deaf Kenyans about HIV/AIDS issues. We focused on the use of local language (Kenyan Sign Language) as the most important aspect of the software. With that we decided to use video (flash video to be more specific) to deliver the questions and answer explanations. We also developed the game with several delivery mediums in mind: DVD based game, desktop computer, and web. As we started developing it we realized there was a big potential for educators to use this tool to help gauge where their students knowledge is and to trend the learning over time through the gathering of statistics. Initial feedback amongst our fellow Peace Corps Volunteers was that they could see using this software outside of the Deaf context in their own areas of interest: other public health issues, standard educational material, civic education, etc. With that feedback we went back and built the software so that users with moderate skills could create their own modules. AND In the spirtit in which it was originally concieved we've published the software under a GPL license (open source) so people can adapt, modify, and share the software freely. As with any project, it's a work in progress. For those that are interested in checking it out the site is: http://smartquiz.mindfulinteractive.com. If you think that this is worthwhile at all please help promote it by blogging or posting to your favorite social networking sites.
Also if you have any feedback about it, or questions, or are interested in implenting this somewhere, don't hesitate to email me msteudel at gmail dot com.
Thanks, Mark
