What software would enhance our non-profit?

We are a Domestic Violence program with a very small office of two and a board of directors with 11 members.  We need Microsoft Powerpoint on one of the computers to mostly read powerpoints sent to me.  The other two office computers have it.  In order for us to order on Techsoup we need to purchase 5 seats.  Does anyone have any suggestions of other Microsoft programs we might benefit from?  We operate on grants and fundraising, do community awareness programs, legal advocacy, shelter victims, offer counseling and educational resources.    Any help would be appreciated.  Cheers, Jill

If all you need is to view power points that is already created, consider the free power point viewer from Microsoft

2003 Power Point Viewer

2007 Power Point Viewer

Other suggestions would be to get current versions of Microsoft Office Pro for all computers and one for the shelf

Another software to consider is Map Point, which among other things could create maps of the neighborhoods where
DV occurs with pins marking locations, which you could overlay police report locations and incidents with your clients.

If you just want to get a minimum order, look at Microsoft Server CAL (Client access licenses) they are only $2.00 each.

The Vista or XP upgrade software is also handy if you get a donated computer with XP Home on it.

Do consider your potential growth for the next year as you have the order restrictions on how often you can order from TechSoup.

Also if any of your computers came with an OEM version of office, I would replace it with the charity license from here so you have transferable software when you update your hardware.

Have you considered using free Google Docs for this? It can open, edit and save PowerPoint. We are using it more and more - online sharing capabilities are great and we rarely use our desktop versions of PowerPoint.

Check out Google docs and/or OpenOffice.

I'm guessing that this combo will do like 80-90% of what you need.  Check it out, and chances are that you'll not need the 10-20% you thought you needed and that you'll really like their extra features (in addition to the cost -- FREE!)
