Symantic Corp Ed. on tech soup - question about license

01-08-2009 6:52 AM

When I look around at other AV products they talk about how long the license is for (usually 1 or 2 year bundles) but there is no mention of how long the Symantic Corp Ed. is licensed for.  With this version will I just be able to download new virus definitions until Symantic stops supporting 10.2 altogether or will I be hit up next year for a license fee?

It seems like a great deal if there is no hidden fee in a year or two but it is hard to compare prices when other places all talk about yearly licenseing.

Thanks for any help.

for consumer product, it's 1 year and it will expire.

but for enterprise I don't think it has time limit. but you should upgrade to new version every year anyway. since newer version has better detection for new virus.  and even you compare with other products, let say Mcafee for 3 yrs compare with techsoup symantec AV every year for 3 years. It still very very low.

Actually, the corporate editions are licensed for one year.  That doesn't mean it stops working after a year, but you as the network admin should know you need to update the licenses.

Some versions (the antispam/email antivirus) will stop updating if the license file isn't up to date.  Other versions (ie corporate desktop versions) will continue to update, although you may be in violation of your license agreement.

Just because it updates doesn't mean you're not in violation of the agreement.  The licenses are extremely cheap on TechSoup and there really shouldn't be a reason to not stay compliant.

They are all for 1 year. After one year the p[roduct still work just will not update new sigs.  So they will catch all the old stuff  but none of the new stuff.
