Sharepoint Enterprise CALs

Hi. According to this link - Sharepoint CALs, "An organization must acquire both a Standard Edition CAL and an Enterprise Edition CAL in order to use the Enterprise Edition."

I just wanted to confirm that this is true that we would need to buy both the Enterprise and Standard edition CAL. That just seems a bit odd to me.

And, assuming that this is true, does that mean that if I were to purchase Sharepoint Enterprise, that it would count as 3 of my 6 eligible purchases in a 2 yr period?

I'm very sorry about the delay in responding to your question!

Yes, it is true, you would need to order both sets of CALs. (enterprise and standard) and combined with the server, it would count as 3 of your 6 titles. Once again, I am sorry for the delay in responding and I hope that this information helps in your ordering process

Keep in mind you may not need the Enterprise CAL's for all your users. Just for the ones you want to have the additional Enterprise CAL functionality. You can download the feature comparison chart here, the Entprise CAL mainly includes additional BI access:
